Audit Numbers

Audit Numbers are assigned to members upon election to membership. This number should be used on all transactions at the Club. Only a member may sign his or her name and audit number. Permission to do so may not be extended to family or friends under any circumstances. However, Signing Privileges for Spouses may be applied for. (See Membership)

Auto Rental Discount

Avis Rent-A-Car Systems offers members a discount on car rentals for business and personal travel. Cards are obtainable through the Club Office.

Bulletin Board

Located in the lobby telephone room, the bulletin board posts important notices, news of upcoming Club program events as well as other items of interest.

Business Meetings

Business Meetings may not be conducted in Harvard Hall, the Main Dining Room, the Grill Room, the Cambridge Rooms, (see Papers), the Library or other public rooms. Private rooms may be engaged for such purposes through the Banquet Office (212)827-1209.

Cell Phone Usage

The use of cellular telephones is generally not permitted in the Clubhouse. Cellular phones may, however, be used in the following designated areas provided that the phones are set to the "silent" or "vibrate" mode: (i) the banquet rooms and halls immediately outside them, (ii) the bedrooms and halls immediately outside them, (iii) the telephone rooms, (iv) the cloak rooms, (v) the Work Center and (vi) the West Wing elevator lobbies. Cellular phones that are not set to "silent" or "vibrate" may not be used in any area of the Clubhouse. In addition, use of the camera function of camera cellular phones is prohibited throughout the Clubhouse.

Although use of cellular telephones is permitted in the areas described above, their use is discouraged because of their disruptive nature. Members and guests who find it necessary to use cellular telephones in the designated areas are asked to be considerate of Club members.

Committees

Committees include Admissions, which meets with applicants for Club admission; House, which oversees the operation of the Clubhouse; Program, which plans and coordinates programs; Schools and Scholarships, which interviews candidates for admission to Harvard College. A complete listing of committees and their activities is contained in the Club's Annual Report. Members are encouraged to contact the Manager's Office to learn how they may become more active.

Communications

Communications to the membership and announcements of Club events and services are contained in the Club's monthly Bulletin, on this web-site, and in a weekly e-mail newsletter, Today@HCNY. Bulletins are mailed to each member monthly. The web site is updated as required and new Bulletin copy is available on the first of each month. To subscribe to the weekly e-mail newsletter, send an e-mail message to today@hcny.com.

Dining in Downtown New York

Harvard Club members may sign for food and beverage at The Down Town Association located at 60 Pine Street. To make use of this fine establishment, simply show your Harvard Club membership card. For reservations call 212-422-1982.

The Down Town Association serves breakfast Monday-Friday 7:30-9:30 AM, and luncheon 12:00-2:30 PM. Bar service is available 11:30 AM-7:00 PM Monday-Friday.

Harvard Club members sign all checks with their club audit number and indicate they are from the Harvard Club. All charges will be billed to their Harvard Club account. Club member will be charged a $3.00 guest fee per person. If you would like a new membership card, please call Petal Sampson in our Membership Services office at 212-827-1206 or get in touch with her via e-mail at psampson@hcny.com.

The dress code at the Down Town Association is jacket and tie in the Main Dining Room and business casual elsewhere in the club.

Dress Code

Casual business attire may be worn throughout the Club except in the Main Dining Room, when gentlemen are required to wear a jacket for lunch, and a jacket and tie for dinner. Ladies are required to wear dresses, suits, or clothing of equivalent formality. The dress code applies to members and their guests. Members are encouraged to inform their guests of the Club's dress code.

The accepted standard of casual business attire for gentlemen is collared polo-style shirts without jackets and ties. For women, an equivalent standard of casual attire will be accepted.

Blue jeans, denim clothing, athletic shoes, halter dresses, sweatshirts, sweatpants, leggings, t-shirts and shorts are considered inappropriate attire except when members and guests are going directly to the overnight rooms or athletic floors. The only exception to this rule is that effective May 10th, 2007 the House Committee agreed dress jeans are permitted in the Charles River Game Room. Dress jeans are jeans in good repair and appropriate to well-dressed causal attire.

Guest Privileges

Guest Privileges are available upon written introduction by a member and in accordance with the House Rules for a one week period. Fee is $18. The Front Desk handles all arrangements.

Holidays

The Clubhouse is open every day. Services are limited on weekends and on the following holidays: New Years Day, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Presidents' Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Thanksgiving Day, the day after Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Special holiday meals are served on Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, Passover, and Mother's Day for which advance reservations are required through the Program Office (212) 827-1202 or programs@hcny.com. Holiday schedules are published here and in the monthly newsletter and are posted in the Clubhouse on the signboard located in the Lobby.

Members' Work Center

Located at the lower level of the Clubhouse contains work stations for members who wish to read, do their personal work or make use of personal computers and telephones. Four carrels are equipped with PCs that may be used by members. The PCs have popular word processing, spreadsheets and Internet browsing programs. Front Desk handles all arrangements for this area.

Paper of a business nature are only permitted at breakfast in the Main Dining Room and at lunchtime on the Balcony during its regularly scheduled serving hours.

Parking

We recommend Hippodrome Garage for our overnight guests. The Hippodrome Garage is the closest parking facility and is conveniently located on the same street as the Harvard Club at 50 West 44th Street. The Hippodrome Garage phone number is 212-997-9096.

Wheelchair accessibility of the Clubhouse

The entrance to the Harvard Club at 35 West 44th Street is at sidewalk level and wheelchair accessible. The elevators in the 35 West building are fully ADA compliant as well as the women's locker room. Restrooms and overnight rooms are also accessible. The only place that may be difficult to access is the men's athletic locker room on the sixth floor.
